This project focuses on the family farm in Kentucky. Interviewees reminisce about the communities where they grew up and how they have changed over time. A wide range of topics are discussed, including family histories, Kentucky Heritage Farm histories, changes in farm technology and agricultural practices, changes in transportation, commercial farming, subsistence farming, use of chemicals, food preparation and preservation, home remedies, farm organizations, division of labor on the farm, schooling, health and safety issues, African American farmers, and the future of the family farm. Varieties of livestock farming discussed include pork, beef, dairy, sheep, and poultry. Crops include tobacco and hemp.
